Uterine Fibroids and Infertility

Fibroids (Leiomyoma or myomas) are non-cancerous muscular growths that amass in the uterus. A woman can have more than one fibroid at a time ranging in size from small to large. If the fibroid is considered a subserosal (on the outside surface of the uterus) can cause the patient to become infertile. In this case, treatment to remove the fibroid is necessary to become pregnant.

Treatment of Uterine Fibroids

Denver Fertility -Albrecht Women’s Care will perform a series of tests to determine if a uterine fibroid is present such as a saline ultrasound or hysterosalpingogram (HSG) to determine type, size, and amount present in the uterus. If it is concluded that fibroid removal is necessary a minimally invasive surgery will most likely be recommended. It is strongly encouraged to seek out a reproductive surgical specialist like us, to protect future fertility.

Myomectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the fibroid(s) and repair the uterus. In most cases, women can expect a successful outcome with myomectomy; restoring fertility and decreasing pain associated with uterine fibroids. Our Doctors have been successfully treating uterine fibroids and performing myomectomy surgery throughout their medical career. If you suspect that you might have a uterine fibroid please give our office a call for a consultation.
