What is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome?

PCOS is a hereditary endocrine disorder that manifests in a panoply of symptoms such as scanty or absent menstrual periods, acne, hair growth in a male-type pattern, weight gain in the central part of the body, and of course infertility.  Oftentimes the onset of PCOS occurs in adolescence but may not be treated until a woman experiences distressing symptoms such as weight gain or infertility.
